I made a typical chicken box style nesting area out of wood. Double version, so the nesting areas are right next to each other. For chickens, this would not be a problem, but I wonder if it is a problem for pigeon couples?
I have 3 pigeons, 2 of them are a pair. Earlier this year, I noticed the single one trying to make a nest on the ground, even though both nest boxes were open. Now, recently, I noticed the couple have taken one of the nests, and the one next to it, remains unused.
Is it the case that when pigeons live together like this, the nests should be somewhat separated so that they don't feel like they intrude on each other's territory? Or is it OK to make this kind of setup (and more in the future) where the nests are basically right next to each other?
Thanks!
