Puffed up cheek Indian Runner Duck

Yep. I just had a cat with a couple abscesses from fighting that we successfully drained and properly treated. Her swelling immediately went down.
The pus in a cat access if different than the pus that's in a bird abcess. In a mammal, if wait long enough it will burst on it's own and start to drain, or you can lance and flush, but a bird abcess will not do the same. In birds the pus will turn hard and require lancing and physical removal of the pus. Somewhere I have and article from a vet that explains this, so I'll try to find it.

I suspect that the duck in thread has a sinus infection.

Thank you for all your answers, her appetite wasn’t the best last night, after reading a lot online I kept a deep enough container for her to dip her head in and spoke with a friend which said to give her some amoxicillin as we don’t have vet for poultry in the area to prescribe Baytril... I gave her a first dose last night and this morning the cheek seems gone down a bit... I’ll keep going for 3/4 and hope it’s nothing worse :)
Make sure you give enough amoxicillin. Dose is 50 to 70 mg per pound of body weight twice a day.

How's the swelling?

I guess I kinda forgot that! I would be interested in why!

:D
This is what a vet said:

"The tricky thing about birds’, herbivores’ (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats), and reptiles’ pus is that it is thick, like cottage cheese or toothpaste, because these animals lack the ability to break it down into a liquid, like our pus. This is the reason we have to perform surgery to remove the pus from these animals and not just cut the area open and let it drain out."

Today is the 3rd day and the swelling is nearly gone! :) Cooked some treats last night (spaghetti with scrambled eggs) and she loved it.
I’m much more relaxed now, thank you... we kind of keep these 2 ducks like pets and it would have been sad to lose the girl.
It’s the first week outside and as we live in London unfortunately we have foxes too, tried to make the coop as fox-proof as possibile so hopefully they will be fine, one was on top of their coop last night :( do you guys think that is protected enough? They sleep inside the house during the night with no access to the outside... 82174A61-93BC-4A83-B0EF-C5EFAA92E6F5.jpeg 0E36B3FB-F2DD-41BA-809F-9A741E3D68FB.jpeg 50B56FA4-F1D2-4913-8F31-AEF718044E90.jpeg

It looks good of course most of us believe hard ware cloth or wire is the best predator deterrent, Always remember foxes and other preds do come around during the day too. But your coop looks good So cute with the duck in the window.

Awesome news the swelling is just about gone. !!! Yay
