puffy eye

Haunted thanks for the new info.
And yes 7 days it is. Any idea of withdrawal time? I was going to wait another 7 days till we saved eggs again. So that's 14 days of eggs in the trash. I'd rather be safe.

Right on the money time wise. You know, the reason they tell you not to eat the eggs is for drug residuals that can be in the eggs. A lot of people give that a nod and start using the eggs sooner than the 14 days withdrawal. It comes down to someone in your family having an allergy to the tetracycline. Me, I don't use them as I have had a reaction to the drug in the past. My sister, on the other hand used them after 7 days.

Isolate that bird from the rest or it'll go through the whole flock if its coryza and treat everybody.

Update 1: her eye looks much better already. I'm going to look for mites tonight. Not sure if they attach on like ticks do, but this would have been the smallest tick ever if it was a tick on her eye lid.

There was a tiny tick stuck to the top eye lid. I'm guessing that was the issue but I got some Duramycin and will treat the flock for 5 days. My rooster has a slight gurggle after he crows so i wonder if that is an issue too.
When he crows...does it sound as if he is trying to swallow it back in? Like a drawn out ahhhhhh? Lol, sorry, can't think of a better way to describe it. A couple of mine will do that at the end of an especially loud, strong crow. I think it has something to do with the way they breath. They don't have a diaphram like we do and the mechanics of their respiration is odd and may be the cause.

But, if it is a wet, nasty, gurgling sound, I'd be reaching for the antibiotics, because that would indicate sickness to me.

It might just be the breathing. Well everyone is on the antibiotic in their water, so if it clears up it was probably an infection.

My girls' eye is pretty much back to normal. So glad for her.

I also have one chick of 12 days old that has a puffy eye. I'm new to BYC and to chickens so any advice you can provide will be much appreciated. I'm going to try to upload two pictures of the little darling. For what I've read here it seems that adding tetracycline to the water would be the best approach. It's only in one eye, and this is the only bird that has the problem. S/he seems to be as active as the others and I'm keeping an eye on all of them. Please let me know what you think. Many thanks.
