Hello! Heard some chicken sneezing, then saw one chicken sort of mouth breathing. Started them on Tylosin. The next day I noticed one of my younger birds had a puffy face I’ve seen before, and was glad I started Tylosin. But today I noticed that 2 of the hens that started with the sickness have diarrhea. I don’t think that’s typical with respiratory issues? Do I have 2 different things going on?

Also, the Tylosin expired in 2022. I’ll buy more but assumed it should be fine for now?

Do you have photos of the birds, their faces and the poop?

So the puffy faces came back after about a week off of Tylosin. I had put them on probiotics, and their poops did seem to get a bit better but now I’m back to where I started. Diarrhea and puffy faces started again, so I did Tylosin for 5 more day, that ended yesterday. Their faces aren’t puffy anymore but they’re still breathing with their beaks open on occasion. Combs are bright red and they’re getting around and eating/drinking normally. @Wyorp Rock any suggestions about how to proceed?

Can you please get some photos of them and their poop?

How are they being kept, they have plenty of ventilation?

Some respiratory diseases like Mycoplasma are chronic. So if they begin to have issues again, you may need to give treat them with Tiamulin (Denagard/Tiagard) for 3 days each month to help control symptoms.

Would this be 3 days each month indefinitely?? Can I get those medications online?

It’s really only one or possibly 2 hens continuing to be affected, but I only see the one breathing with her mouth open. This is her. My phone camera doesn’t work so these are from my husbands phone. I unfortunately can’t do anything about the quality of the photo. 😕

Oh sorry, I forgot a picture of their coop. I have 9 chickens, 7 sleep in a tree. 2 hens, including this one, sleep in their coop which is pictured here.
