Puffy hen

Hi there,

One of our hens started making this awful noise a few days ago (like she’s very irritable) at random moments. Last night she slept in the nesting box. I went out this morning to check on her and she’s extremely puffy. I checked her vent and don’t see any hints of an egg bound. Is this sour crop? Any help is appreciated!!

Next, in case she's egg bound, give her a calcium citrate tablet. This will encourage contractions. Other signs of egg binding are white runny poop or watery poop and the absence of cecal poop. Offer plenty of water as she can get dehydrated if she's egg bound.

This is the calcium you need. Give directly into the beak without diluting.
