Puking chicken!!!!UPDATE: Picture of something from crop/poop??

All right, I went out there this morning and gave her fresh water, and a nice yummy yogurt/pellet concoction. She sipped water immediately, but wasn't too interested in the yogurt. I put some around her beak and she drank that, but didn't get any on her own, and didn't take anymore. Her comb now is starting to look a little browner towards the front, but I don't know if that's my eyes playing tricks on me or not... it's just not as vibrantly red as the others'. She's still puffed up, and still not moving around much, though she's standing, and will walk when provoked... like if a large boot looks like it's going to step on her.

There's a patch of wet sawdust where I assume she was drooling/vomiting last night, and there's also a wet spot on the wheelbarrow which was flipped over to make a wall of her hospital. I don't know if that's drool or poop. It's pretty much clear, maybe a tiny tint of yellow or green, but it's hard to tell.

I didn't notice any odor from her breath, and I'm still unsure about the crop thing. I just don't know if I'm feeling the right area? It's above the breastbone, but it's more right in the center and it's probably the size of a baseball, but it was like that on all the chickens last night, and I didn't compare this morning, so I don't know?

I'm going to pick up some wormer today, hopefully that will help her.

Thanks for everyone's help! Any more tips would be greatly appreciated.

Would it be possible for certain types of berries to do this? My mother just informed me that there are some berry bushes out back, and they look sort of like cranberries but aren't. We have no idea if these are poisonous or not, but the chickens WERE free ranging Tuesday night, and this chick started showing signs of sickness on Wednesday.

Could that make her vomit like that? And how do I fix it??

I am a newbie, so I am hoping someone will jump in and correct me if I am wrong. The crop is more on the right side above the breast bone. It should feel full at night cuz they have been eating all day but in the morning it should be empty and feel squishy, sort of like a sponge.

While you are out today can you go to a feed store and pick up a packet of "Vitamins & Electrolytes"? If you don't have a feed store or Tractor Supply nearby Pedialyte has less solium than Gatoraide.

Please keep us updated.

Hugs to you and your girlie!

I just went out there to check on her before I left for work all day, and there has been progress! I brought her some oats soaked in a little bit of gatorade and water and she pecked at that a bit, then went over to the yogurt I made her earlier and ate quite a bit of that, so that definitely pleases me.

Also, I gave her fresh water earlier and two hours later I came out to find this...

Not sure if that's poop, or something that came out of her crop, but it doesn't look good. It's a cameraphone picture unfortunately, but the liquid is also kind of yellowish if it's hard to tell. It's very unusual that she would poop in her water, and when I gave her some new clean water she lapped a bit of that up right away as well.

She's also much more perky than this morning, still not moving a bunch but her eyes are staying open and the fact that she is eating on her own and seeming interested in things pleases me quite a bit. It seems that once she got rid of that gross brown stuff she's been doing better.

Does anyone know if she could be in the clear now, as long as I keep her well nutritioned until she's back to 100%, or is this something that will keep coming back every night/morning? I will be going to the feed store tomorrow to get wormer for the flock, I'm just happy as now I'll be able to go to work a TINY bit less worried, although still panicky.

I'll make her a new yogurt concoction tonight as well, I don't want to let her have yogurt that's been sitting out for a while. I'm just happy she's eating!

Just got back from work! The chicken is just standing there... with her eyes closed. They were open this morning. I'm feeling this is not good... she didn't eat or drink anything while I was out there, and she's just quiet. Still a bit puffed out.

This is what her poop looks like from today, it looks like two separate poos, one with brown stuff, one with just white...

Please please please let me know what I can do.

Has she ever been wormed? Do you have a local vet that can do a simple float test on her poo for you?

I wish I knew what to tell you but I have no idea.

Separate her from the rest of the flock. Put her in a place that is dim so she won't spend energy trying to make eggs. Put her in a warm quiet place. Like when you are feverish or sick you want to be warm and quiet.

Give her some raw ACV in her water 1 tbsp per quart.

If she is puffed up and standing with her eyes closed it may be too late to do anything more than just ease her way out.

If you think her crop could be sour (smell her breath) or impacted - food not moving through - give her only the acv water and olive oil soaked bread for 24 hours.

If you think she could have gotten into some kind of poison try a molasses flush. 1 quart of warm water and 2 - 3 tbsp molasses. The sugar will draw into the intestines and force some big poops if you can get her to drink at least a quarter cup over a couple hour period.

I don't have any of these things on hand... ugh, I hate seeing her like this. What is ACV? Still no obvious smell from her breath, but she did vomit again tonight and it was more of a yellowish liquid. Her crop is swollen, like a water balloon, I was finally able to be sure that it is her crop. She's been separated and alone since yesterday.

She has never been wormed, but her symptoms don't really fit with that of worms? None of the other chickens show any sign of this.

I don't want to see her suffer...

If her crop is swollen up and she is 'vomiting' then my money is on an impacted crop.

Keep her warm.

Do not give her anything to eat but the apple cider vinegar mixed in a quart of water and some bread soaked in olive oil for the next 24 hours. Keep her on bedding that she cannot eat - no straw, no wood chips, preferably a warm towel or rug you don't mind throwing out when you finish this ordeal.

Gently without pushing upwards massage the crop once you can get some oil and vinegar in her.

The vinegar will kill bacteria, yeast, virus, etc that could be growing and the oil helps get things lubricated so it can try to move.

Hopefully you can get her to start pooping big oily poops.

Is there an alternative to ACV? I don't have access to that and won't be able to get to a store until noon tomorrow... I'm going to bring her in the house, I think, in a dog crate, so she'll be warmer. I don't want to stress her out but honestly I don't know if I'm doing more harm or good at this point with whatever I do.
