Pulled over again!!

I guess the morale of the story here is to keep your windows clean (for safety reasons) and your license plate clean(so they know if your car is legal or not) ..

no it isn't. I know MANY police officers. If all they want is to say "what are you doing" they don't need anything more suspicious than you not fitting into the neighborhood. Or to see that you "look distracted" IE talking on your cellphone (even if it is legal to be on the phone in the car).

And no, touching the white line ISN'T against the law - I'm not talking about crossing over the line and going off the road. Just your tires touching the edge of the white line is enough. Believe me, it usually takes much less than 5 minutes to find a reason to pull someone over. Have your radio loud. Looking "distracted". Slowing down and speeding up (like you would do if you were lost or looking for an address). Not using your turn signal. Having a dirty license plate. Cluttered rear window (could be dirt or stuff piled in your car). All of these are reasons to pull someone over just to say "hey. I was just wondering what is going on." Any other questions need further cause but that isn't difficult either since a lot of people who are doing something wrong immediately get defensive or cop some type of attitude. Or else there is immediate physical evidence - smell of alcohol, smell of drugs, slurred words, jittery behavior, empty bottles/cans/paraphernalia visible in the car, etc

And a complaint of robberies in a neighborhood is probable cause to pull over any vehicle doesn't fit in. Also someone calling in that they saw a suspicious person.

Oh they can do what ever they want... They are immune to prosecution.... The courts on the other hand will keep throwing the cases out an awarding monetary damages for there actions. Lots of very bad people get away with lots of bad things cause the cops did not handle the stop correctly.

Many of my friends are cops, a few lawyers that use to be cops an 2 elected Sheriffs

Touching the line is failure to maintain lane..
Loud radio is only reason if it is in a county with noise laws.
No turn signal is a crime
Dirty plate is only illegal of it keeps you from reading it.
Defensive or coping an attitude is a protected right an can not be use as RAS or PC
Ditry back window is only for regular passenger cars in most of the US. I can legally paint mine black.

An pulling a car over cause it does not "fit in" or "looking lost" will get anything you find thrown out of court.

Stopping someone cause someone called in a suspicious person will make them wealthy. Lots of cases of this.

when i was in fl i lived in a affluent area with my mom, but was young (20) and working construction (masonry) and was riding my bike down the sidewalk in a very public area (but dirty from work that day) they pulled me over and hassled me because they thought I was vagrant. I was a employed taxpaying citizen 500 yards from the private beach access my community owned with a tag showing access to neighborhood facilities. They couldn't do anything, but it was assuming I was a criminal because I was dirty (from working) and I would have been the first to report any crime in progress. I have a good middle class job now and my kids are kinda spoiled but I still remember how it felt and get really angry when I see someone getting looked down on because they are less fortunate than you. But they can pull you over for any reason and pretty much get away with it. If you are innocent you are happy to be let go and no action usually comes of it.

i was tired from work and going to the beach to jump in and wash off in the ocean (in my swim trunks) then shower on boardwalk and hit the beach pool so ten minutes and i would have been clean but they saw the dirt and harrassed me.

Thats illegal in the US. They need to have RAS to make a stop. Not just fishing...
Not true, exactly. If you have a vehicle that matches a report or tip, they can pull you over if they want. Or if you are in a high risk area, they can pull over every car that comes through if they want. Depends on the situation.

Not to be disrespectful...but, I live in the country, too...I don't pay for carwashes, well, not very often, and it is amazing what a bucket, some dishsoap and a sponge can do! Then again, I hate dirty windows on my car and my DH would have a fit if the cars weren't clean! I would have to agree with thaiturkey...being a cleaner, I would think that a clean car would go a long way towards getting more business.
Yes, a bucket and water would go all long way around here for sure.. Were in a drought, to the point farmers are feeding their winter hay, selling herds, were not watering our garden.. Our garden is pretty much dead.. Were on well and conserving every little bit..
I do see your point, there's always the gas station to do at least my windows and plate..

As for my hubby having a fit with me, well, when he works as hard as I do, he can complain!! :)

Yes for sure, I have kept my rear window clean since then, always have my pate clean.. Except, that dang little sticker oopps

It gets renewed in Sept, so close to a years worth of dirty..

I must say both times, officers were really nice, and they were behind me when they pulled me over.. So they wouldn't even be able to tell who's driving..
