Hello
I have some Australorps that are about 6 weeks old. I’m starting to get concerned about one of them possibly being a male. We already have a rooster and he’s a jerk so wouldn’t likely be able to keep it. What do you guys think? It’s body is about the same size as the others. Thank you in advance!

it wouldn’t be a good idea to have two roosters unless you either have about 20 hens or no hens. You could also keep them separate from the others but then they wouldn’t be able to their job as protecters 😞

Boo! He’s a jerk but protects his girls which why we are ok keeping him around. What are the chances of successfully having two roosters? 😔
Depends on how many hens you have. It also depends on how and when you add the youngsters in to the existing flock. Some people maintain a younger rooster in the flock, to learn from the "expert," but you have to be careful with introductions.

with these new hens and existing we would have 15 hens and two roosters. Not sure if I’d want to chance it. We may build a separate coop/run for the new birds. 1 rooster with 5 hens...
