Pullet, 24 Wks, Heart is Racing (UPDATE: She Just Died)

You could all be right, maybe it had nothing to do with cocci at all. Perhaps her smaller size and her death were related to a heart defect of some sort. I immediately went to the cocci they had as chicks because its the only thing that was ever wrong with them.
I keep my birds so healthy and give them the best of everything, but I'm being hit with all these "internal mechanics" issues this year. Nothing contagious ever, just body parts that cease to function properly. The breeder is just as upset as I am, I believe. Her birds are exceptionally healthy and beautiful and I think it was just a fluke of some sort.

Sorry for your loss Cynthia
Hope you find out what happened

Well, the good news is that I'm going to incubate a larger batch of eggs from excellent stock again in a month or so. Both my Blue Orp pullets gave me an egg today, so I know they are both laying now.
Kira is the saddest chicken you ever saw! She just sits next to the waterer by the door to her coop, like she's waiting for Cassie to come back. First, Jake disappears and now Cassidy is gone. She just has two Welsummer girls in there with her.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Certainly sounds like a genetic thing and nothing that could be avoided. These things happen every once in a while even to the best stock. I'm just sorry it had to be you after the year you've had. Will the breeder work out some sort of replacement deal with you?

The breeder is fast becoming a great friend and mentor in this new breed project of mine. I'm sure that by March, I'll have a brooder full of brand new beautiful Delaware chicks. She's been amazing!
