Pullet? cockrel?

Jersey Giants are a breed...

What attributes tell you that it's a Jersey Giant, and not an Australorp?
I'm asking because I have two girls that look like this. Guy told me they are Australorps, but they just don't look it.

Never mind. I get it. That's a pretty girl. I'd love to see her all grown up!

here are the feet, just took the pic. getting dark out lol

They mature much slower? I will have to check their feet. Are they the same size or larger as standard hens at 20 weeks? I plan on adding JG to my flock this spring. It would be a treat if that's what they are.

Definately not an Australorp. A BA has large dark brown almost black eye with no pupil showing. A JG has the brown eye with black pupil.
Also BA's feet are black with pinkish skin and pads, whereas JG have yellow pads and skin on feet. Hope this helps.

Mine have always been the same size as they grow. When they reach the time they start laying, they seem to get bigger than anyone else. They are noticebly bigger than my Orpington.

I now have a pure JG rooster to add in, and just got a few more JG chicks.

teamsunbelt: Thanks for the info on JG pullets going from undeveloped to bright wattles & comb. We ordered 5 pullets & 1 cockerel in July and had the male identified in 3 days. We also got same number of Black Australorps, and able to ID the cockerel by day 7.

One morning in week five we suddenly had 3 black chooks with developed red comb & wattles. Only one of them still had slender legs and rounded saddle feathers. At week 12 she is still the most developed, largest, and the boss. Her comb & wattle are now smaller the the males.

Good to know this is not a fluke.

As an example, my Rooster. Was not sure for a while what he was, roo or hen. This pic is a couple weeks old. He was hatched first of May. He is still about half the girth of that hen, he has the height though.
