Pullet comb

This is the hard time, waiting for that first egg. They are not quite there yet. For me, we are very slowly getting longer days, and daylight does affect laying, however, I caught a pullet in the nest box yesterday, she was hatched in August, and is just now coming into lay. The winter development time delays the onset of laying in my opinion.

Once they start squatting, they are getting closer, but in my experience it is not quick, more about 2-3 weeks later they will start laying. Just before, their combs will redden up quite a bit.

Patience...

Here is one of my hens. Sorry about the quality, was a bit dark still. The dryness look is on the comb of all my hens. View attachment 1663161
That looks pretty normal to me.
How old is this bird?
Is she in lay?
...and.....

It's easy to do, (laptop version shown), then it's always there!

They are california grey pullets and the bantam I'm not sure of. I bought her about 2 weeks ago and the staff said she was around 6 months old. I'll try to upload pictures.

Hi! Sorry this is off topic, but I was wondering where you got the California grey pullets? Also if you like them. Thank you!
