So my Jersey Giant girls are 5 1/2 months old and working out the egg-laying kinks... but WOW. Should I be concerned? How is this egg explained oh, experienced chicken gurus? It’s two eggs in one ( I have yet to break it open. )

Thank you, chicken sages.

I'd be curious as to whether or not it is a double or single yolker. I'm not an expert by any means but it almost looks as though she had two ovum released at the same time or one behind the other. The first, larger egg was getting ready to leave the shell gland and the second ovum arrived bumping into it resulting in the 'fusion'?

She's a new layer so in the immortal words of my late father...looks like she had a little hitch in her get a long.

Those are known as “blood spots” it’s essentially just a bit of tissue that comes off as the egg is being made, it is harmless but can be unappetizing- some people chose to scoop that spot out. It is seen more often in backyard flocks simply because store bought eggs are candled and eggs with these spots are removed. Some people say you get more of these spots if the chicken was startled or stressed when forming the egg.
