I've got a hen laying only egg whites. This could be a great marketing hen.

Aside from the obvious, does anyone know why this happens. This is the third egg in 4 days. She's a cuckoo marans, about 2 1/2 years old and appears totally healthy. Must be easier laying these little guys

That's a new one to me. Anyone for an egg white omelet?

I hope this does not mean trouble for your girl, seriously. I have no idea.

Its what is called a "fart" or "wind" egg. My older hens would do that on occasion. Expect it is a minor plumbing adjustment that comes on with old age and moulting. Not enough egg white in there to make a decent omelet though.

Good point about the moulting. I thought about her age, but not the moulting and she is right now. As long as the entire 'egg' is coming out of the vent, I'm fine with her only producing whites - I'll add it to the single egg to make a little bit bigger omelet next time.

ps. I'm not telling my dh about the name for the egg or I'll never hear the end of it.

Now I'm concerned because she has taken to staying by herself, not laying and going into the coop and sitting on the roost before 3pm. What could this mean?
