My friend came home yesterday to find one of her five 6 month old pullets dead on her back under the nest box (in a chicken tractor- safe from predators). She was a Buff Orpington that had recently started laying. She was healthy that morning, everyone was eating well, no diarrhea, ect. She had no visible trama on her body except her vent was enlarged and open and there was bloody and green discharge from the vent. We were hoping for some ideas on what may have happened to her. I know that chickens can die from being egg bound, but how long does it take before it kills them? My friend was gone from the house for about 12 hours. We would appreciate any help. Thanks!
