Well, let us know what the vet tells you. We just wanted you to understand that the smell was not at all normal and was indicative of a very serious issue. I see that people's hackles are raised when I say my advice is to euthanize, like I have insulted them in some horrible way. They ask for my advice and I give them the best advice my conscience will allow, based on what I know of communicable diseases of poultry and the carrier nature of most of those diseases. I can do no less than that.

Even if you get started chicks, they can come as carriers of disease, just to be clear for the future. Some think that chicks cannot come to them ill, but that is not true. A member some of us know well put a one-week-old chick that someone gave her son into the flock and was battling infectious Coryza for a couple of years afterward for her mistake of not quarantining it so symptoms could come to the surface.

I'll only be going to the vet if she doesn't improve on the meds. I now understand that the smell isn't normal. Thank you. I don't have my hackles raised at all. As you have no problem telling people that your advice is to euthanize I have no problem telling people I won't be following their advice, but thank you all the same for giving it. Not only do I have these chickens for eggs, but they are also my pets and I will do all I can for them (as long as they're not suffering) before I choose to end their lives.

I do know that a chicken at any age can carry diseases. I had these chicks in a brooder in my garage nowhere near my hens for 6 weeks and there were no symptoms of anything until now. I kept reptiles before this, so I am well aware that a quarantine period is very important. Thank you again for your help and sorry if I made you feel I was offended. I welcome any help I can get since this is my first time owning chickens.

I know this is a super old thread, but what happened with your chickens???? I have been told to kill my two chickens, but Im isolating them. I hope all ended well for your babies!
