Update: Canela's eye continues to improve, I see some yellow at the corner of her eye (probably infection), but it's so small and she wiggles so much that I can't get a grip on it. I'm keeping my eye on it.
Salt, the hen that I was hoping was off brooding under my melons and squash, and who had been making morning visits (every other morning) to grab a bite to eat, dust bath and visit with Pepper, our rooster, was discovered today, face down in the dirt. Rigor had set in, and she was covered in ants on her face and eyes and some flies were looking to get in on the action too. I didn't do a necropsy on her, I draw the line at ANTS. I did bury her near the bananas out back that she enjoyed hunting for bugs under.
