Pullet has swollen eye

Update: Canela's eye continues to improve, I see some yellow at the corner of her eye (probably infection), but it's so small and she wiggles so much that I can't get a grip on it. I'm keeping my eye on it.
Salt, the hen that I was hoping was off brooding under my melons and squash, and who had been making morning visits (every other morning) to grab a bite to eat, dust bath and visit with Pepper, our rooster, was discovered today, face down in the dirt. Rigor had set in, and she was covered in ants on her face and eyes and some flies were looking to get in on the action too. I didn't do a necropsy on her, I draw the line at ANTS. I did bury her near the bananas out back that she enjoyed hunting for bugs under.

I'm so sorry to hear about Salt :hugs

It's good that Canela is still improving! Maybe you can eventually get that pus worked out of her eye.
Thank you for the update.
Thank you for the condolences. I am hoping that with regular face washing with a damp washcloth may eventually tug it out... She's been allowing me to pick her up daily, cleanse it, and reapply ointment.

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that I found the clutch that Salt was brooding. I candled them. There were 11 eggs in total, three were definitely Brown Sugar's eggs (and infertile), one of Salt's eggs was infertile, the other seven I've put into my incubator, (and just had enough room for them), along side of my quail eggs. The eggs were absolutely filthy. Disgusting filthy. It rained last night so they were moist, but not in a pool of water (that I know of). I used a dry paper towel to just wipe the yuck off of them, except the dirtiest one, that got a damp paper towel instead... it was covered in dirt and feces. I guess I'll know in two or three weeks if there were any survivors. I saw Salt yesterday morning having breakfast, so she either died yesterday after that, or she died today. Rigor was still strong, so I'm guessing that she died today.
Any suggestions on what I should or could do for her eggs, and for my quail eggs that are now sharing the incubator?
