Pullet is throwing head back, doesn't get up and stretches legs out.

Again Im no expert but Id sure think it could be linked to trouble walking. It looks pretty swollen and therefore must be pretty uncomfortable. Try the suggested warm compresses. That might help her to feel better and then perhaps walk a little.

To answer you bedding question. I use pine shavings. It has more absorption then the others. Straw is not good fro absorption and can produce may fungus.
Get the shavings!

I think that it's a result of her not being able to move well - she can't preen it as she normally can. Which means you have to for her. Fun job, that. /wink

I think the gallimycin is working on her respiratory problem but she is stll not walking. If I don't see any improvement in her walking do I still taper off with the vitamins? I'm beginning to think she will never walk again...it is so depressing.

OK definitely she'll need 6 more days to make a 10 day treatment period. Continue the vitamins through this period. Make good and sure that you do NOT use milk products or yogurt. Please do use some sort of other probiotic powder like acidophilis capsules/tablets, probios, or even parrot baby starter formula.

If vitamins are part of the problem, then it needs long term treatment. If the illness is MS (which is both respiratory and the synoviea of the joints - check for inflammation) then the meds need to definitely continue at least the 10 day treatment if not the 14 (depending on the label - despite a 7 day listing on the label i'd do 10 days minimum).

I think this might help her, hopefully - since they seem to be related.

thanks Natalie

I stopped giving her dairy (yogurt) the day before the antibiotics and started with the acidiphilis.

Maybe I'm not giving enough vitamins. Here's what I have been giving her daily:

3 drops of polyvisol

2 drops of vitamin E

about a quarter capsule of vitamin E

Another question: Should I change her feed...she is still on starter feed?

I think I would go ahead and put her on the grower since she's what, 10 weeks or so now? Or starter/grower.

How's her oil gland doing by the way?

The vitamins look fine though I'm confused - 2 drops of E and the capsule of E?

Sorry...it was supposed to be 2 drops of E and a quarter capsule of B.

She is 14 weeks old now although she doesn't really look like it especially since she doesn't have any feathers on her head yet. I can see the feathers starting to poke through though.

I started the epsom salt compress yesterday and applied it in 10 minute intervals 3 times...but i'm not sure if the swelling has gone down much. I will continue today. For the compress do you add the salts to the hot water?
