pullet or cockeral?? how old?

I think the age is pretty close, and I'm thinking pullet. I'm going on the reasoning that Leghorns show very early, even the females grow some good sized combs young. I don't think this bird, being half Leghorn, has a cockerel comb.

Guess we'll find out in a month or so

I'm not familiar with Leghorn; I have BRs... I can't remember what they looked like at 7 weeks lol... I'll have to go look at some pictures :D

Ok lol... BR at 7 weeks, real good close up...

I change my vote to pullet... I had forgotten how early BRs get combs too... This pic is my top hen now, had a comb very early ;)

I agree with Donrae...that is not a substantial comb for either a BR or a WL for 7 weeks if it were a roo.

Neither for a hybrid as they mature quickly as well...especially that hybrid, which is essentially a California Grey....although it looks like the father was the BR with the ghosting pattern for barring.

I say you've likely got a pretty little pullet, which will mature fairly quickly for you and probably lay around 18 to 20 weeks...if she follows the path my hybrids have....although she is maturing in shortening days, so she might not lay until spring depending upon your weather and location.

Wooohoo there is hope!! Lol I wanted a California gray and they are hard to find so when I ran across this one I said heck its close enough and paid 10 bucks for it. If I paid 10 bucks for a mixed cockeral ill kick myself lol. So ill update in the coming weeks with new photos ;)

I think it's right at about 8 weeks old, maybe a bit younger. It's lost almost all of the chick down on the head. It could be a pullet. But that comb looks more like a pea comb, than the single comb I would expect to see on a Leghorn/Rock mix.
