Got ya! Good to know. I didnt even realize that the BSL's were a hybrid. All makes sense now! I appreciate everyone's words of advice.

Thanks for asking! I got four BSL chicks, and have one - and only one! - who looks almost exactly like your picture. She's also quite bold and assertive, so I was wondering the same thing. I also didn't know BSLs were crosses between Barred Rock and RIR - so I'm really glad you asked!

This is my black sex link about 8 weeks old. She is awesome, no eggs yet but I'm Anxious!

thats cool about sexing chicks,
question...If I have sexlink hens and an "unknown" roo would I still beable to sex them as chicks??
I have a broody sitting on a few sex link eggs but we really not sure what the roo is :(
thanks

Sex linking is a "first generation" thing for these crosses, so you can't breed a sex-link hen to produce a sex linked chick, you have to start with the base parentage each time (meaning barred over red)

I have 2 BSLs - one is very red and the other has a lot of white. So do the males have white on their heads only or also on chest and little rump?
400

The one in question is on the right with only it's white rump.
Thanks!

They can have white on their undersides, but if it's on their head that means it's a boy.
Your BSL's are pullets if they are getting orange and black feathers.
This is my girl as she's grown.........
