Pullet or cockerel?

400

This is RIR in question this morning(61/2 months old)

She IS unusually dark for a pullet, but there are no saddle feathers coming in, which would have by now if she were a cockerel, so she's definitely a pullet! If she isn't laying already she's going to start laying for you any day, based on that comb!

Bummer I was hopping it was a rooster!

Check your local Craigslist. There are tons of free to good home roosters this time of year. Just be careful not to bring any disease/sickness in to your flock, make sure to only get birds that look healthy and appear to have been well taken care of, not kept in filthy, wet, or crowded conditions. You may also consider quarantining it for a month, away from your other birds, just to be extra safe. But I guarantee you you'd make someone very happy by taking their pet that was supposed to be a pullet, but turned roo, so they can't keep it themselves, but really want it to be someone's rooster rather than someone's dinner.
