Pullet or Cockerel?

oh, i didnt realize you didn't know the breed! its a Silver laced wydotte!

It was in the mixed pullet bin at my local feed store and they did not know the breed. I am guessing silver laced Wyandotte also, but the comb is not right for the breed so that kind threw me off.

Yup, SLW cockerel. Supposed to have a rose comb, but that one looks to be a straight comb, maybe. Bald shoulders are a male trait.

Yes it has a straight comb. I was also thinking it is a SLW however the comb is not right for the breed. I have had suspicions that it is a cockerel even before it’s comb and waddles stated to turn red by its behavior. He is also very squirmy and won’t calm down when I hold him. I would like to keep him so
I hope with enough handling he will be nice. Interesting I didn’t know that bald shoulders are a male trait.

I would say it is a cockerel but i had one that looked exactly like that(comb) which turned out to be a pullet.

Interesting we shall see in a few more weeks for sure. I have had suspicions for Several weeks now by his behavior.

The pictures I posted earlier were talking yesterday. Here are additional pictures I just took tonight. I think his comb and waddles are even more red than they were last night? His wings also look different than my other chicks. The others have more rows of feathers. I read this is not a accurate way to sex though? Finally got him called down enough that I could hold him more than just a few minutes!

That’s what I’m thinking too! I’m actually excited to have a rooster. This is my second set of chicks, but my first rooster!
