Pullet or Cockerel?

last question for you, for now. The female pattern...is it that her head is a different color than the rest of her body and that she’s not a patchwork of colors elsewhere? I really want to learn as much as I can about these little creatures.

It's the pattern. Especially on her back/body. With the wildtype pattern and then with some others as they developed the rooster have a more bold colorful look while the females have more subtle colors and more pattern.
The hens need a more camouflaged look to protect them from predators when nesting. The rooster's is thought to be for attracting a mate.
