Hi! Trying to figure out if this is a pullet or cockerel. I’m not familiar with this breed so hoping for some intel! I know we should just wait for a crow in order to confirm but I’m impatient 😂 If anyone has had a French wheaten maran let me know what you think!! Its about 6-7 weeks old

Pullet

Breed wise, seems to be a legbar cross. She has some leg feathers, so some marans ancestry could be a possibility
Whenever I googled French wheaten maran she looks nothing like one so I’ve been real confused 😂

If a chicken looks nothing like what they have been said to be, you have been lied to. Simple. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who lie about the breed of their chickens, either to sell more or because they have not done research.

It doesn’t bother me one bit I didn’t care what she was but when I tried to google characteristics of pullets vs hens I was like uhhhhh this is not it 😂 she’s the sweetest chicken!!

A pullet is a female chicken less than one year old. A hen is over one year.

Like someone else, I *might* see some feathers on her shanks, so it's possible she's a Marans/Legbar mix. If that's the case, she'll probably lay a green/olive egg.

It's possible you weren't intentionally misled, but rather a Legbar rooster somehow got into a Marans pens and passed on some sneaky genetics. Intentional or not, she's definitely not a pure Marans.
