Pullet or Roo Plymouth Barred Rock

please tell me this 16 week old plymouth barred rock is a pullet......

oh no....i hope not...i caught this barred rock trying to mount my older Easter Egger pullet today and that's when I began to question it....they say barred rock pullets have a slight black pigment to their feet and I notice this on this ones feet...but I'm so confused because he/she is getting so big at only 16 weeks old...

This is a picture of a couple of my barred rock hens.. They are about 3 weeks younger than yours though, I don't know if this helps...

If you go by that bright red comb on yours alone, all other things aside, that would indicate a roo. For a pullet to have such a red comb, she would be starting to lay. I would doubt she would be ready to lay before five months. So you might as well get used to the idea of having a roo.

that's what i was afraid of....i really didn't want a roo but out of my 6 chickens, this is the only roo i have.....guess i'll keep him and have some mixed breed baby chicks....

Well, they are good for making more baby chicks, but you'll find they also have high entertainment value. Roosters can be very, very funny!

i also noticed a small spur on the back of foot....looks like a roo....no crowing yet...thank goodness i live in the country and hardly anyone around to hear the crowing....hubby doesn't like the idea of mixing the breads...for some reason he wants all thoroughbreds.....i'm going to keep the roo barred rock and hopefully the mother can take care of those chicks if i have any.....never had chickens until this year so i'm new to how this all takes place as to the fertile eggs and how the hen does this....any help and suggestions is appreciated....
