Pullet or Roo?? She is now 6 months old today.

Thank you all for the responses, I will move her out with the big chickens then. I have a free range flock of 9, I haven't put her out there yet because she was too small, but now I am thinking I can't chance it. My silkies were expensive and they are so fluffy... ugh

Agreed with Azygous. Cockerel death was coincidental, and Sprite is a pullet.

BTW, until they are a year old, they are either a cockerel or a pullet. After a year, they earn the title Rooster, cock bird, or hen. It sounds like semantics, or nit picking, but there are behavioral differences that come with maturity, so calling the bird by his/her age designation is helpful.

If you have a separate LF flock, that is where Spriite should be.

Sprite appears to be a pullet to me. I also believe your Silkie roo's death was coincidental. How old was he?

If Sprite was a cockerel, you would have heard some hoarse attempts at crowing by now.

Silkies almost never have a fair advantage with standard size breeds. They're lovers, not fighters.
Well, silkies have that soft spot and we kicked her out today for pecking at another of my silkie’s heads... the other was 7 months and he was fine before the scuffle that morning!

Pertaining to space - My understanging, minimal spacer per chicken is 4 sq ft in the coop & 10 sq ft in the run. Anyone correct me if necessary :idunno But since you're moving her with the LF, all's well. Again sorry for your loss.
It is 2-3 sq ft full sized hens inside the coop, 4 sq ft in the run per full sized chickens. My coop is 36 sq ft... with 5 small silkies and one 6 mo old EE... there was plenty of room...

No. Should be 4 sq ft of coop space per standard sized bird and 10 sq ft of run space per standard sized bird. For bantam sized birds it's 2 sq ft of coop and 6 to 8 sq ft of run. These are estimates for established flocks. Integration of new flock members requires even more space.

Those are minimal requirements too..Most require more space...

THAT CHICKEN IS EVILLLLL!
Anyway.... XD Sprite looks like a pullet, I mean she's six months and that's when chickens are adults (right? XD). She doesn't have a long comb and wattle, which usually roos do at that age... BUT if she's attacking, then she might be a roo? Sometimes finding out gender is confusing XD It's happening to me with one of my chicks. But Sprite also has a big tail, she looks like a pullet. I don't know but I think I'm more sure that she's a pullet instead of a roo. :3
