My gut/pics are telling me cockerel but for the sake of my family loving this one I’m hoping it’s a she! No other barreds to compare in our flock.

In this shot, you can see three or four light-colored black-and-white striped birds clustered together near the center of the picture. They are Dominique cockerels. Lower down, slightly to the left, is a darker bird, also striped black and white. That's also a Dominique, only she is a pullet. Although they are not Barred Rocks and the feather patterning is different, in both breeds it is true that the males appear much lighter than the females because of a feature of the barring: the males have more white. Your bird is identifiable as a cockerel primarily because of the wide white barring in his feathers.

Do you get to exchange him for a new bird? Or just give him back?

If you are going to exchange him for a new bird, I would do it as soon as possible. It makes it much easier to transition and for the birds to sort out their pecking order. Even now, they may bully the new one.
They will give you a hen. Problem is they youngest they have is 11 weeks and ours are only 5-7 weeks max. I’ll be reaching out to them today.

Welcome to BYC though! ❤️

If you are not allowed go keep males and want to rehome him, I recommend starting now. Males can take a while to rehome and most people do not take in males, even if they are free.

Thanks! The farm that I received them from will take back any accidentally sexed as hens but I’m going to have some sad humans who have been raising “her”.
