I noticed several weeks ago that our 11 week old BO pullet couldn't see very well. If I hold out small treats in the palm of my hand, she pecks just in front the treat and only occasionally makes contact with the food. She is currently living with an11 week old EE pullet. They spend their nights in a dog crate and days out in our chicken run. I am in the process of introducing them to our 3 adults hens. She is finding her food and water fine and seemed healthy otherwise. A few days ago was her first day free ranging with the big girls and I noticed her right eye was partially closed. I don't see anything else different with that eye (no discharge or swelling). Any ideas what could be making her squint and have poor vision? Thank you!

It's possible there could be debris in her eye. You can make a homemade saline eye flush to flush her eye. Boil 1 cup of water with 1 teaspoon of salt in it. Let it get cool, then flush her eye with it. Once the debris is removed put a little neosporin ointment in the eye, not too much as it will melt.

Is it possible another hen could have pecked it in a tussle?

Thanks for the responses guys! I am pretty certain she hasn't been pecked. I noticed the poor eyesight weeks before I did any introductions. I have been watching everyone closely during the intros and only one of my hens has given the little girls trouble and she is more focused on the EE.

Maybe it is just something irritating her (goodness know there's enough stuff floating around in the air this time of year!) I will try flushing her eye when I bring them back into the garage later this evening. Thanks so much!
