Pullet with soft squishy belly , eyes closed.

If you are going to euthanize this hen, you might also be able to do your own "rough" necropsy. It would be basically the same as butchering.

Look for tumors, enlarged liver, kidneys, and heart. There will probably be tumors along the reproductive organs.

If this is what you discover, you can be reasonably certain you're dealing with a chronic, infectious virus that probably affects your entire flock.

Well everything looked healthy to me except the soft eggs inside of her. I decided to research the feed .... I'm going to try layer feed again , more calcium and minerals to help them absorb it.

3 days later they're all laying !!
2 semi soft shells but at least they passed. I'm frustrated that my feed mill advised grower for layers when the mix is considerably different .

I learned a lesson but my poor pullets paid the price ...very sad.

One week later and the increased calcium has allowed my hens to lay normal eggs, their tails are up and no more are dying!!

Still can't believe that changing them to layer feed made such a difference
