When does a chick become a pullet?

Pullets are females under 1 year.
Cockerels are males under 1 year.

I've always heard the one-year mark. By your measure of sexual maturity, my cockerel chick became a rooster at ~12 weeks and my pullets became hens between 23 and 44 weeks? That doesn't seem right.

You're right debid. It's one year. Otherwise there wouldn't be pullet size eggs. I had a Jaer roo trying to breed anything that moved at 10 weeks.
I certainly wouldn't consider him a rooster.
Terminology is loosely applied though. I do it myself. I sometimes call young males roosters but I think I do so because it's easier to say than cockerel, which is what they are.
