Hi guys, just went outside after work to find my legbar pullet like this. I have no idea what happened but I’m assuming one of her sisters did it. I already sprayed it down with antimicrobial poultry care but I don’t know what else to do for her. She’s acting normal besides it hanging down like this but I’m sure it hurts. It also isn’t very deep, surface level only. Any suggestions?

I had a hen like that recently. She looked like she was in a hen fight.
What I did to treat my hen, I washed her wound with some hot water on a paper towel, then I sterilized a pair of scissors with peroxide, rinsed the excess off then snipped the floppy part of the comb off. Then I cleaned her wound a bit more with water then dabbed a little peroxide on her wound with a paper towel. She's living happily now with half a comb.

Not that it really matters at this point, but was her comb covering a larger area over the wound?

I had a hen once with a large comb that extended well beyond the back of her head. She was always getting it torn off except for where it attached at the front. Each time, I cleaned her up and stuck the detached comb back into place. In less than a day, it was reattached.

It's tempting to cut off any dangling tissue on a chicken wound, but the best thing to do is to stick the detached tissue back over the wound to act as a skin graft. This enables any wound to heal three times faster than if you trim it away, making it necessary for the chicken to grown new tissue to cover the wound.

I use antibiotic ointment like original Neosporin to "glue" the detached tissue in place. This should be done each day until the wound completely heals, never allowing the wound to dry out.

With the weight of a comb and movement of the head, I would doubt that the comb would reattach itself. To me, the best solution would be to trim off the dangling part of the comb with very sharp scissors. Some breeds of roosters normally have combs docked, and those who do that routinely are some of the best to give advice about it. Your vet could also be of help with that or with stitching it. Here is a short link about trimming an injured comb:

Thank you all for replying! This morning my fiancé and I wrapped her in a towel and he snipped the dangling part off. She bled a bit, I didn’t have anything on hand to stop it with so we just applied pressure with a paper towel. Sprayed some more of the veterycin on it and then put a thin layer of silver sulfadiazine cream that we had gotten from the vet previously for an injured chicken. We have her resting inside for right now before putting her back with her sisters later today. They didn’t seem to be picking at her yesterday or this morning so I think it’ll be okay.

So now I have a bigger problem. I have to leave on a work trip for the next 2 days and my fiancé will be away for the same 2 days as well. The other 2 hens won’t quite pecking at her head. I have no idea what to do. There’s no where else I can separate her too besides a crate and no one that can take care of her. I’m freaking out a little

A dog crate with food and water would work if a neighbor could make sure that the food and water are not spilled. Leave the crate with the other chickens. I would not leave her alone with the 2 others, since they may have been the ones to cause the comb problem. There could be something going on with her that they are pecking her. Or some bullies. It will take some time and observation to figure out what is wrong.
