I'm completely new to having chickens. My aunt gave me 4 pullets who are about 3 months old and helped me get set up with the right food and all. We have a small protected run and a coop where they can roost but, if I'm not home at 8:30 to encourage them into the coop, they end up on the roof instead. It's enclosed, so fortunately they're safe until I get home, but I'm wondering if the draft is too much outside. I'm hoping they get used to where to go but in the meantime I'm trying to figure out what to do with them if I am gone for the evening. It isn't ideal to get on a ladder each night to scoop them up and place them on their roost! Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A photo of your set up would be helpful. Chickens instinctively want to roost as high as possible so the roof line of the coop is appealing to them, but sometimes there's other issues ranging from pests to lack of space to heat/lack of ventilation.

Ditto Dat^^^
Knowing your climate/location would help too.

You could cut there wings which will prevented them from flying . And when they grow back they'll be used to not flying.

How high do they have to fly up to get to the roof? Is there netting or solid wire over that roof? Details about your coop, exact dimensions, including height, exact size of the ventilation/windows, height of perches, length of perches, height of perches from floor of coop will be needed before we can help you problem solve.
