Pullets? Roos?

My roosters are awesome. They don’t like each other, I got them when they were about a year and the hadn’t bonded with humans, but man, do they love their girls.

They know I’m the boss and have always given me my space. I squat down to pick something up with my back to them, and they have never rushed me or flogged me. My Cemani roo eats scratch out of my hand hesitantly, after he’s feed his girls. They trust me to hold their hens and don’t freak out, and it truly is awesome to watch the dynamics. I wish I could keep more 🖤🐓

I am truly in awe at how roosters treat their hens. And I can’t wait to see how my roo takes care of his flock! The Marans chick I think is a rooster already rushes me when I approach. And he’s still a baby too!! If we kept that one I’ll name him Stinker.

Well, if he rushes you and makes contact, you should rehome to maybe an older flock of hens. Do you have older hens? They will check him. But if he touches you or rushes any small children you may have around, he may have to go!

I’m referring to the not-so-nice Marans to call Stinker…. 😂 My sweetest chick is a Wyandotte.

These are our first chickens so we’re still learning. We had already planned to rehome any possible roosters. When the sweetest of all the chicks started looking a bit roostery, I got nervous he’d have to go. That’s why I posted their pictures. But now I’m getting some great info on roosters. But don’t worry - if any rooster rushes me, he’ll go.
