Pullets sitting on Blue jay nest

My pullets are about 2.5 - 3 months old. They had a blue jay set up a nest in their barn. Lately a few have been taking turns sitting on the baby blue jay while mama's away. Why? Is it normal for chickens to sit on strange birds babies?

lol it sounds strange to me maybe its a sign they want babies of there own and ide watch em closely but it sounds cuteable lol

I can't answer your question, but I do have a concern- parasites. Wild birds frequently (like always) carry interesting passengers. You might want to keep an eye out for that.

They must look silly nesting on such a small nest.
