Pullets sitting on Blue jay nest

Quote:
It's at the top of the western wall, about 10 feet.
They have taken to hanging out in the rafters. I couldn't figure out how they were getting up there for a while. Seems the jump up on a four foot high barrel, then "fly" the rest of the way.

They're really funny sean-pc! You'll have to keep us up to date on their progress. I wonder if any of the hens have put any eggs in there? Or is the blue jay chick hatched already?

This so so cute. I have never heard of anything like this. How wonderful to have witnessed this most amazing arrangement. Animals are wonderful . What a world we would have if the people did that for each other.

Thought I'd update you all and answer some questions.

The little jay is hatched. I don't know if he was hatched when they started sitting on him.
My birds aren't laying yet. The oldest is only 3 months or so. They still take turns up there. Mostly split between a few RIR and a few Ozzy's.

We had some peafowl wander into the yard yesterday. The chickens didn't seem to mind, as they followed them around. I was going to try and catch them but no luck.
They must belong to someone around here, but I can't for the life of me figure out who. There are only 3 other houses on the whole thousand acres or so. None of them have anything but a dog.

Anyone know how to catch them? I could really use some ideas on this one. The only thing I know is where they drink. There is a big puddle left from the rainy season. I can see some prints around it.

I read that they go to the same watering hole every night before bed so I'll go up and see if I can get some picks of them. Maybe I can follow them back to their roost?
