Pumpkins and pumpkin seeds

Like all the other treats, mine wouldn't touch it!

I think I have strange chickens? They are between 5 weeks and 10 weeks and they don't go for any treats?

Oatmeal, yogurt, cabbage, pumpkin, apple...nothing so far.

They did seem to eat the yogurt eventually, but didn't go crazy for it yet.

try halved grapes, seem like everybodys like them. I call it the take away game.

i guess mine get too much food,, they eat the pumkins,, but not like CRAZY as everybody's elses,, it takes em 2 days between them all to finish off a SMALL one sad
maybe letting them go a week with no kitchen scraps will help,, lol

its taken mine several days to get down to the rind on a small one, not too crazy over it

well they got their pumpkin, raw and quartered and they loved it. I didn't think they would being they are so picky. But they did.

I think if you dry the seeds for a couple of days and put in a coffee grinder or food processor that would work. I wouldn't chop too small though.

Offer a little here and there of different things, they may be just need to get used to new things. I am sure if any of them has ever stuck their beak into a pile of poo then they are not too excited about trying new things.

Some treats are just weird scary monsters to them but eventually one will get brave and then it becomes a free-for-all melee! Mine go bonkers over slightly over-ripe cantaloupe that we buy at a local veggie market mrked down to .99 because they are bruised or over-ripe or....
I have a lady at a local plant nursery where I finally located food grade DE who is going to give me her 6 beautiful large pumpkins after Halloween is over for my girls! We were talking about what DE is used for with the chooks and I mentioned that pumpkin seeds are a great natural wormer... She offered to let me come get hers that she is using for decorations after Halloween is over. The girls will be happy!

We carved pumpkins today, and I'm going to give my hens a treat tomorrow. I have a lot so I'm going to freeze some for later.

Hey I saw on the main site, a listing of treats good for chickens, but I can't find the link, can someone post it?

treat your chickens with the pumpkin, and treat yourself to the seeds. just wash them, put them on a cookie sheet, sprinkle with a little sea salt, and bake for a few minutes. That is what I like about Halloween and my kids always looked forward to them.
