Pumpkins?

I fed Freebie's birds a pumpkin this past week-end. I always try and stop at the local fruitstands when I go out to her place. I bought a small pie pumpkin for her birds. The carving pumpkins were to exspensive. The pumpkin crop here in Mich didn't fare to well-too much rain in August so the prices are up this year. Well Denise just cut up the pumpkin and they loved it! I also popped them some popcorn too, I had it in a paper grocery bag and was rattling the bag and they went crazy and were running after me. Another funny thing was her house cat came down to the barn. She is a pretty good varmit killer but is kept from the barn because of the 2 barn kitties. Well Mama Cat(who is a retired and spayed cat) came down and her chickens started to chase her! It was hilarious to see this big bad predator cat becoming the prey by the chickens. It was funny to see the chickens chasing this cat away.

I carved a pumpkin this weekend and my chickens were in love with just the seeds.. they left the rest... But my ducks came along and ate the rest... It was fun to watch!

Cynthia should chime in here with her pumpkin and buttermilk wormer.

Save all your seeds and roast them until dry. Save them and use them with Cyn's recipe.

I usually chop the pumpkin into quarters or larger number peices so that all of the chickens can better access to all the pieces.

I gave my chickens half a pumpkin last weekend and boy, did they pick it clean!!
