Yeah, it doesn't look like the skin is inflamed, and like it's healing from underneath. No pus, no redness, just that scab.
I am not looking at the chicken, just photos, but it really doesn't look terribly infected.

It just doesn't look like the chicken wounds I've seen. Hard for me to explain. If it's just a scab, peeling a little off should make it bleed.

The dark bit looks like it doesn't belong. If you pick at it, does it bleed?

No it doesn't bleed. It is not connected to the skin. It gets moister, yellowish and stringy when the dry black part is clipped away.

I cut it back a bit today in hopes that the skin will be able to heal. There is no smell and it is very deep.

Yes, but it doesn't smell. I just posted before and after pictures from today.

The pink looks good/normal, the yellow stuff doesn't look right though. What happens if you pick a little piece of the yellow off?
