Puncture Wound Won't Close

The pink looks good/normal, the yellow stuff doesn't look right though. What happens if you pick a little piece of th yellow off?

It goes very deep. It is pretty stringy. I clipped it back today. I am nervous to take it all the way out because it is keeping things from getting in.

It looks to me like she’s doing a good job of healing that deep wound. Chickens are tough as nails, I would avoid fussing with it and picking the scab off unless it starts smelling or gets inflamed or you see pus.

Actually I do
I know it sort of looks like chicken pus, but with that deep of a wound, I'm thinking it's healing fine. I would not even pull the scab off unless there was something oozing or there was an odor. As that heals and closes up, the scab (plug?) is going to push on out.

I don't think the yellow part is a huge concern since the rest of it looks ok. Wounds that heal by second intention have to fill in with granular tissue, and that's what I am guessing that is.
