Hi all!
My duck Quackers got attacked by a huge red tail today on the patio while she was under the patio table. Her brave mate Cheese chased the hawk away right before my husband ran outside.
She has a small puncture on the left side of her bill and a tiny scrape on the end. It bled quite a bit and then she took a warm bath in the guest room tub and washed it out. I held her for a long time and Cheese stood close by. She was a bit shocky but seemed to recover okay. I gave her nutra drench and tried to get her to eat, she drank but no food. I put them to bed early after lots of smooches.

Is there anything else I should be doing? The bleeding has stopped and I plan on getting her some night crawlers tomorrow for a treat.

I have to hawk proof my patio obviously...my friend who is a falconer thinks it’s a hawk that was recently released and is used to people and eating ducks. It was easily the biggest red tail I have ever seen.

She may have been in enough shock she wasn’t interested in food yet plus I bet that hurt . Tomorrow you might want to offer her feed with warm water made like soup since her bill maybe sore. When my gander punchered his bill I put ACV into his drinking water to help kill some bacteria and it helps with healing won’t burn if used at this strength 1-2 Tab to a gallon of water. A miracle that hawk did really injure her or kill her.

I will do that for sure! I was scared to use ACV because of the burn but I’ll use that ratio. The hawk was not 2 feet from the patio door. My husband almost caught him. Quackers and I are lucky to have such brave mates. ❤️
