Whoa! What a story! That could have been so much worse! I’m glad I’m not the only one willing to die for my fur and feather family! Raptor talons are no joke. My little 5 lb blonde tabby cat is not going out either until the hawk goes away.

Goodness angels watching over. You might want to look into those sun shades I have one over the lattice on our patio they really do hold up and work great for protection.

That sounds like a good idea. When we lived in Destin, FL I was hanging clothes out on the line but left the screen door wide open and a hawk flew right through it trying to get to a bird that was on the fence not 10' away from me. I guess maybe they can't see screens? If there was also one of those roll up (cheap) shades in addition to the screen they would see that plus it's good for keeping the sun out when it really gets hot.

Actually the main reason for buying this one was because the patio is on the south side of the house and it really does keep it from getting so hot . Ours has been up 2 yrs and still going strong.

Hawks are amazing but screens and windows seem to do them in. Just like other smaller birds they must have trouble with them.

Quackers is doing well this morning! I can’t even tell where exactly the puncture was, and it’s not bleeding at all. She has eaten a few bites of lettuce and some meal worms, I mashed up her waterfowl food in warm water. Now I just have to leave her alone so she will eat it! Thank God! Oh and I can see that hawk on the horizon, sitting in a big cottonwood tree on the neighborhood perimeter.

Thank you all so much for your concern and help! I am lucky we escaped with little damage, and I thank the Lord for that. The balance between safe and free is a hard one, I’m going to try hard to find it.

That Hawk almost got lucky it will try again. But now you know and can be ready. Just don't let your guard down even if out with them, they can be very brave. Great news that Quackers is doing so well, she sure looks good. Lovely little one both of them.

I will do that for sure! I was scared to use ACV because of the burn but I’ll use that ratio. The hawk was not 2 feet from the patio door. My husband almost caught him. Quackers and I are lucky to have such brave mates.

Count your blessings that DH didn't catch it; that wouldn't have been the smartest thing he's ever done, and couldn't have ended well.
