We have been fostering a dog from the animal shelter while she had her puppies. She's a medium size, young dog that we don't know the history on because she was left at the shelter when no one was there. She had 9 puppies in the bedroom closet ten days ago and has been great with them so far. Yet today she keeps singling one pup out and trying to move it into another room. It is always the same puppy. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. It is the same size as its littermates. Does anyone have some insight into this behavior? I am worried about the pup, who is already too big for her to carry easily, getting hurt.

she may know something about the pup or she may feel she has too many to care for. try removing a few of the others and rotating the feeding. you may want to look into tube feeding the litter to lighten her work load.

When my dog had ten puppies, we tried to help out by bottle feeding a few. It didn't work that great, but we did rotate the pups and make sure they all got something to eat.
