Going by the definition of "purebred" as "having both parents of the same breed or variety," that's not quite correct. They breed true, as a genetic pool; they are now a breed in their own right. There is no magic dust that makes the Barred Rock, the Araucana, or the Leghorn any more "real" than legbars, as they are functionally the same when it comes to breeding. That is, unless you subscribe to the notion that only APA acceptance makes a breed "real," but that's not the definition used in most circles; it is impractical and goes against convention. The Legbar club is working on APA acceptance, last I knew.All cream legbar are not pure breeds. In fact cream legbars are barred rock mixes bred for blue eggs.
