Me and my uncle have been raising this particular line of Silver Duckwing OEGBs for about 10 years. We've never added any new blood, so they are probably highly inbred. Today one of my hens hatched out 8 chicks. Upon closer inspection, I realized that some chicks were lighter than others. Almost like a reddish color. I've never had this happen before. Every other chick I've ever gotten has been like the chick on the bottom- chipmunk markings with black, white, and brown. But now I've got some reddish looking chicks (the one on top)
Any thoughts? Could years of inbreeding have produced a new, lighter color in my Silver Duckwing OEGBs?

Hmm I don't know the answer to your question, but I definitely want to subscribe to this thread. I had a silver duckwing rooster that unfortunately didn't make it past winter, but he was the best rooster I've ever had. I got a pair of silver duckwing bantams again this year and am going to breed them. :) I'm really interested to see what your lighter colored one looks like when fully feathered out.

They truly are some great little chickens, aren't they?

They really are, my little pair is by far my favorite. The cockerel especially, he's so sweet tempered. And they are very gorgeous birds.

i think that all of the inbreeding has washed the traits kind of like a Albion . have you had any problem's hatching chicks .
