Hey, thanks! I started doing that because the eggs felt so cold that I was SURE they were frozen.

Omni, I forgot to answer your questions:

You said you put a thermometer in the egg. At what temperature do you decide the eggs won't hatch?

Do you do anything special with the eggs that you think makes them hatch better?

I don't know what temperature is too cold... I have not received any that I know for sure got colder than 40.

And I have not had much luck with hatching shipped eggs this winter. This latest batch is going the best, and I am trying Buster's high humidity hatching method after he had so much luck with it in Idaho (or is it UT, I forget). Keep in mind, I am at almost 7,000' elevation in a high desert part of the Rocky Mountains, so I think there are several incubation adjustments that I have to figure out.

All I can say for absolute sure is my silkie eggs were 42 degrees internally, and all but one egg looked fantastic at day 7. We shall see how this hatch pans out.

Uh oh. Now I have to ask what that high humidity trick is

I may have to put some eggs in the fridge and try to hatch them out after they read 35~ just to see what happens. It's definitely a good experiment for we crazy people who love hatching eggs in the winter.

You sure are having better luck than me with chilled Eggs. But I have also heard some one say they kept their eggs in the fridg at 42% for a week before hatching. All the learned reports I have read sugest 55% to 60%. then for only a few days.
I have delayed shipping for at least a week. I would rather eat them and Keep my reputation.

Yeah, I think when you live in Colorado and you have the hatching bug - you take more risks.

I have also read that 55-60 is optimal.

Anyway, I hope I didn't sound like I was giving you a bad time because I didn't mean to.

All I know is, he said he incubated at high humidity through the whole incubation (around 70%) and had the best results he's had. I don't know that it applies to Miss. where you have a lot more moisture & oxygen in the atmosphere...

Has anyone heard from Omniskies this week? I have sent numerous PMs and emails with no reply. I hope that she is okay.

We had a death in the family this week so things became a bit hectic. For anyone (and everyone) who sent me PMs, I tried to answer all of them. If I missed anyone then please, please contact me again. Not responding wasn't intentional - I'm just a little frazzled.

After these eggs ship out we're putting a hold on shipping Rhode Island Reds. I have limited breeder pens and it looks like we'll be switching to another breed in the pen for a couple of weeks. We're still undecided.
