Purple comb, yellow slimy poo

I'm so sad to say we've lost Lacey "Boop-Boop." The vet said he didn't know what was wrong and that we could spend $500 on the x-rays and tests to try to find out and let them keep her overnight, etc. Though we love her so, we opted to bring her home and give her the antibiotic and recommended water/Pedialyte tube feedings, which the vet tech showed my husband how to do and let him record a detailed instructional video of. Well, I got home from work to see that Lacey looked even worse than before, and we proceeded to give her the 20cc water/20cc Pedialyte mixture directly into her crop. Afterward, she immediately vomited all of it and aspirated, seized, and died. Heartbroken and feeling absolutely terrified another of my girls might need to be tube feed some day and that I will be too afraid to try.

:hugs I am so sorry! I know you are heartbroken.

Don't borrow worry about whether you will ever need to tube fluids into another bird. We have several people that are very knowledgeable with tube feeding here, they will be happy to help you if that ever comes about.

Thank you to all of you who helped with suggestions, well wishes, and sympathies. This is truly a wonderful community of chicken friends.

I just wanted to fill you in on what the doctor was able to tell...nothing in the abdomen, severe weight loss and dehydration. He thought there was likely an infection somewhere. The antibiotic given was septra. They were going to have us give 20/20cc water/Pedialyte for 24 hours, along with the septra, and then tube feed 40cc mash made with ground pellets and water every 12 hours after that. I thought this information might be helpful to someone else.
