Purple membrane under shell?

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I had a crazy day today.

The purple is probably from where the chick pipped through a blood vessel during it's initial pip. That happens sometimes even when they aren't malpositioned but it appears this chick is also malpositioned.

You can apply coconut oil or antibiotic ointment without pain reliever to the membrane making it translucent enough to see if there are still blood vessels being absorbed. The level of activity you described does sound like it may be stuck.

I'm going to bed so I won't be able to respond quickly tonight but if you don't see any blood vessels after making the membrane translucent you can continue to gently pull away at the shell and keep checking to make sure it's ok to proceed with assisting the chick out of the shell. If you see any blood apply gentle pressure with a q-tip or paper towel (I find q-tips very helpful during assists for applying the ointment and applying pressure) and put the chick back in the incubator to finish absorbing. If there's no blood you can proceed to take the top off of the shell and I like to allow the chick to do the final push our on it's own. Good luck with your little one!

I applied some ointment and there are still little red purple vessels in the membrane. I put him back in and will try again in the morning. Thanks for your response! And when you get the chance...if I pull back some membrane and it bleeds...how long before I should try again?

How is everything going? I woke up this morning thinking about your beautiful chicken egg and hoping for a good outcome! I sure hope that you have a few more eggs hatch. They are very unique looking to me!

So you were not even able to see an air cell when candling? That is a truly a hard wait. I just read another post where they said you can give a little pedialyte to the beak area and let them swallow a drop or two to help give them energy. It was on the prolonged zip thread.

Good morning! I hope your little chick did well absorbing the blood vessels overnight! There's no set amount of time for them to finish absorbing but if you still see the blood vessels then it's not ready.

My guess would be that because the chick isn't positioned properly, the little body is pressing more into the air cell making it more difficult to see.

I would not give them fluids when they're still in the shell. It's very easy for them to aspirate even once out of the eggs but while they're still in the egg they're also contorted onto an odd position for hatching so I wouldn't recommend it. They can actually survive off of the freshly absorbed yolk sac for up to 72 hours after hatch so there's no worries.

I was never able to see anything. However, I just went to Costco and got a 1000 lumen flashlight so I’m going to try to use that to candle any eggs that don’t hatch...just to see if it will work. As of this morning nothing out of the other eggs. today at 11:00 is day 22. Do I’m just trying to focus on this little fellow...hopefully we get an Easter miracle lol 🐣

Okay so I’m working on his shell again. The bottom section has come off and I can see a tiny yolk sac about the size of a pea. There is also green slimy stuff down by his butt! Did he poop? And should the yolk sac be completely absorbed?

The yolk sac should be absorbed but the green gooey stuff is normal egg waste and nothing to be worried about. Are you able to share a picture of what you're seeing? It can be hard to tell even when you're holding them but it never hurts to try to try an image.
