Put eggs in the bator 9-9-12 anyone want to hatch along????? :0)

Honestly, if it was me and it has been like that more then a few hours I would pick off the flap and then put it back and leave it alone. I mean that is just me because, I have had some I have just left alone and then they suffocated because, of not having enough air.
THANK YOU!

!!! I really didn't know if it would be okay, and I just needed someone to give me permission... So I just went and picked up that egg, and I could hear the little guy peeping in there. I took tweezers and just removed the little flap he'd made, which was set completely in the shell like a puzzle piece. I also made a small tear in the membrane. Then I put it back, and sprayed a little water in the bator. And I feel better! Because I just opened one of my broody's eggs. She hatched 4, had 4 left. I took 3 of those out b/c I had candled them before and they were pretty much non-starters. But I hadn't candled that last one, and so I left it in there with her. The others hatched Wed. afternoon and evening. Today she wasn't even sitting on that egg anymore, so I took it to candle. There was no movement, but it was full--so full, I almost couldn't even see an air space. I did find a small one, and tapped into it. There was a fully formed little chick in there, but it was dead. It must have suffocated. It hadn't even pipped, but there just wasn't enough room for it in that egg.

Okay, the one I made the air hole for is sticking its little beak out and cheeping because...while I was at Target (gone less than an hour!) another chickie near that one who hadn't even pipped yet pipped and zipped an hatched himself out! Sooooo eggciting!

It's a Mottled Black Bantum Cochin, YAAY!

Your welcome, I know if I was in your position I would have moved that little piece and made a small hole in the membrane. Sorry about your little one that died. :0(.

Its funny how some take forever to zip and other are out in like 5 minutes. LOl!!! Can't wait to see your pics.

Wanted to tell you, the one I removed the piece from and pierced the membrane of is out now! So there are two of them in there, and the one that hatched first is already bossy, LOL. There are a bunch of Silkie eggs in the bator, but these are the only two Mottled Bantam Cochins that were viable. So if they are a boy and a girl I will name them Adam and Eve, as they will have to populate their world all by themselves!

Thanks again for sharing what you would do in my situation--don't know how it would have gone if I hadn't done that, but I do know that it worked out great!

Am I going to get any sleep tonight? I keep running in to check on the eggs...

Well I went to check on my little one that I was trying to help out this morning and he had passed. He tried really hard in the middle of the night to get out and then died. It looked like someone had beat the egg up. I should have helped him yesterday. Once again kicking myself. Last time I tried to do this hatch the one that made it to hatch died on the night between day 18 and 19. Same thing happened again. I should of known to help. :0( It turned out the same as last time he was so big he couldn't get out. He wasn't in the egg backwards it turned out he was so big that his body had to fold on itself for him to fit in the egg. So he was facing the right way but, he was bent over and his head was in the small end of the egg. He couldn't move his head it was like it was stuck, so he ended up suffocating with his nose and beak being smushed against his tummy and wing. I am so upset with myself right now. I just wish I had partially zipped for him yesterday, If I had he would be born this morning not dead.

Okay, I am done. I am not trying to hatch out anymore of this kind of eggs from this breeder.

We really wanted to have one though. I guess I will just have to get over myself.

Oh, I'm so sorry.

That is the hardest thing, when they get so close but don't quite make it... What kind of chicks were these? As for helping, maybe that would have worked, but do we ever really know for sure? It's so complicated. If I think about it too much, I am just astounded that ANY of them manage to hatch! Well, if you lived close by, I would make you a cup of tea.

So sorry Dandy!

I helped out one last hatch that was really struggling and when it was out it's head and neck were way out of proportion and he died at at less than 24 hours old. It's always so sad to loose a little one. Shipped eggs are so iffy. I hate hatching out shipped eggs, but sometimes to get the breeds you want that's the only option. Good luck next season!

I kept reading that shipped eggs are a hard way to go, but I guess I thought denial and strong will would help me beat the odds. Nope! Still glad I did it, but I think my hatch rate is going to wind up being 40% if I'm even that lucky. I'm happy for the ones that are hatching, though, and I've definitely learned a lot. I'm hoping that by this time next year I'll be hatching eggs from my own birds, with a much higher success rate.
