Put eggs in the bator 9-9-12 anyone want to hatch along????? :0)

Post pics when he gets there don't worry about the eggs I'm sure you have more than you think
I will try to post some pics tomorrow. He is very pretty and is voicing his opinion very loudly about that trip he just made. It took him to days to get here and he only lived about 4 hours away. That just seems crazy.

I hope your right about the eggs but, I am really wondering if I got anything. I have done a hatch with this ladies eggs before and out of 9 eggs I ended up with bumpkiss. Only one made it to hatch and it was unable to pip. He was to big and didn't have an air sac. He started rocked and rip a hole in the membrane then suffocated because, their was no air sac. I know its not good to assist but, if one of these start rocking and then don't pip shortly I am gonna at least make an air hole. I know to look for that this go round but, the first hatch I didn't know to look for that with these eggs. Broke my heart cause, when I eggtopsied he was a beautiful fully formed baby just no room to move. So needless to say I am watching these guys like a hawk for any sign of life. If they are alive I think the situation might be the same. With him when I would candle it never looked normal and now I know it was because, he was so big and lack of air sac. These eggs have looked weird when I have candled and I am thinking maybe I am seeing the same thing. Oh well, I guess all I can do is keep a close look and help if I can.

How many made it into lockdown? Why do you expect such a low hatch rate?
By the way, that egg I put with the others has definitely died. The veins have faded now. So only one has died that was not fertile.
Oh, I am sorry about your little eggy.

I expect a low hatch rate because, I have tried to hatch these same eggs from the same person and got 0 out of 9. Only one made it to hatch and it didn't make it through hatch. I thought I would try it one more time because my son and I really love the eggs and when I tried to hatch them out last time he fell in love with the big brown egg and then he didn't get a baby. I am hoping to get him that baby but, this is our last try. I have done hatches from others mailed eggs before and never got less then about 80 percent. So I know the issues is with these eggs and not the incubating. I am just gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. This is our late try with these though.

Oh yea, 5 made it to lockdown but, out of those I am almost positive two are gonners. I put them in there anyway since they are such dark eggs, I figured it couldn't hurt.

Good luck on the eggs! Can't wait to see pics of fluffy butts and that new Choc Orphington!

I called the PO this morning when I took my son to school my eggs were in. I went and picked them up after they opened at 8. The box was in lots better shape and the eggs were packaged better! They're resting on my counter right now. Will candle them and put them in the bator tonight.

Yea, that is awesome.

It should look like a big black end with the big end of the egg having a empty spot wich is the air sack I have a thread that I found with wonderful candling pics if I can figure out how to post on herehttps://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation there I did it unfortunately I had not seen this when I did my first hatch with silkie eggs that I bought and because of that I might have tossed good eggs so look at this then candle hope it helps

I candled my eggs and found out of 20 eggs, 2 were cracked. Looks like they were prolly cracked when they were packed since only 3 eggs had detached air cells. I put wax on them and am hoping for the best!

What is lockdown ? I have never heard that expression before...
It's when you stop turning and bump humidity up on day 18. You don't open the incubator during the last 3 days - so we call this time 'lockdown' hands off ;) lol

Nothing happening yet, though I set them on a Thursday evening 3 weeks ago. Not worried. My eggs always hatch a bit later for some reason :idunno

No rocking yet either. I bet when I get home I'll see some rocking and rolling. I guess first pip will be tomorrow. I'll keep everyone informed! :D

I had no idea you could put wax on them and still hatch. Have you had success doing this? Thanks

). I researched it on here and decided to try it. Why not, if they don't hatch all i've lost is a bit of birthday candle!

There are others that have had good luck with this. I'll have to come up with some creative names if either hatch.

Okay, so here is the verdict on my hatch. It looks like 4 out of the 5 that I put into lockdown passed right before lockdown. No wiggles or anything from those guys. I did put a small air opening in the one just in case but, when I did it was obviously the baby had passed and had probably been a day or two.

thats why I am guessing right before lockdown because, it had been growing before that.

Egg number 5 I did get wiggles and rocks. After a little while of no zipping I made it an air hole because after the history I have had with these eggs I figured it might be in distress. When I did just as I had expected no air sac and the baby was upside down. So where I should see a beak I am seeing feet. I just put it back and gave it more time to absorb the yolk sac. I didn't figure it was gonna make it, that was Wednesday night and now it is Friday and it is still alive. I am crossing my fingers but, it doesn't seem that active so I don't expect the best.

I am gonna help it out just in case there is any chance but, now I have to figure out how to do an assisted hatch on a baby that is in the egg upside down. I am sure I shouldn't zip from where I put the breathing hole just in case his yolk sac is not absorbed. I am wondering if I should do a second hole in the small end of the egg and go from there. Has anyone done this before and can give me some advice?

So of all my eggs that almost made it to hatch no one had a air sac. so I have done a little research and sounds like they were probably shaken up and turned into scrambled eggs in the mailing process. I probably shouldn't order from her anymore just for this reason. Makes me sad cause, my son and I really wanted some of her babies.

On a lighter note, here is some pics of my Imported Chocolate Orpington roo.
