My little lav has grown some and is just a little smaller then last hatched so I thought it was time to put them out with the others and get them out of my room. Although they have grown I didn't realize just how much smaller they are then the others until they were all side by side. BIG difference in size.
My buff dundotte female went after the lav first thing with the other largest gray following suit. At first they just seemed to be light pecks but the minute the lav went to the feed dish they got more serious with their pecking. They didn't seem to peck the last hatched though and mostly targeted the lav. I watched and intercepted a few times but when they actually hurt the lav and made it yell I knew it wasn't going to get better.
So I put the lav and last hatched in a cage and am going to leave them in the shed with the others and pray that the lav will get bigger at some point and will be able to join the others. At least they are out of my room. I have also decided to keep them on game bird starter (unmedicated) to give them the extra protein and still have them on polyvisol 3 times a week.
