Putting a "Property Damage" Price on Layers

@downriverchicks - It is not a failure on your part. 100% of the blame lies with the dog and its owner. We had a similar situation however our neighbor's dog killed a chicken immediately, broke a leg on my daughter's duck, and a second chicken succumbed to what I'm assuming was internal bleeding within a week of initially surviving the dog attack. I called the police. THey called the Animal Control. As it was not the first time, I believe they gave the neighbor's a choice to either re-home the dog (who proved he was capable of jumping 6' fencing, or humane euthanasia. I don't know what they chose but they never compensated us for our loss. More sadly for me, I've still not been able to forgive her (the owner) as she initially told Animal Control we lied. Thank goodness I'd called the cops who photographed my dead animal and filed a report.

That is why I advocate filing a formal report if there are damages. These irresponsible owners can allow their animals to run the neighborhood, killing as they go, and unless there is some legal documentation, the owners can continue to claim "it never happened". When there is legal documentation, the strikes mount up until the owner is forced to take action.

Could not agree more!

AR-15, kills chicken killing dogs dead. Then hang the carcass from a tree and let it rot. I do this with coyotes, and they haven't been back in 4 years. I hear them on the neighbors property just across the road, but they wont cross the county road onto my property.

I agree with you, but this is a "domestic, owned dog." You could get in a lot of trouble with animal control for doing that to this dog.

Haa, I bet some of those 'HomeOwnersAssociations' would get a BIG kick out of that.
